Product shoot for SoxyToes

This post we discuss the product photo shoot for SoxyToes the fun socks brand that adds fun below your belt.

Socks are making a move for the limelight in the fashion industry. Socks have always played the classical and traditional character. But not anymore. We agree that off late there has been a surge in the funk department for socks. SoxyToes has emerged as a brand which offers products with luxury fabrications and playful yet sophisticated patterns. We were excited on the prospects of the photo shoot when SoxyToes reached out to us for a photo shoot for their launch.

The brand offers socks that range from loud colors, prints and patterns and unique variations like scented socks. SoxyToes provides a large variety of socks ranging from no-show for your Loafers to Argyle or dotted patterns to bring out your funky side. It is important to stock up on all types of socks to keep you ready for every occasion so you never end up with a fashion faux pas! From under ankle to the traditional mid calf – SoxyToes has it all sizes and fits of socks for you.

We were asked to shoot an assortment of 30 designs for their launch. The first meeting we went over all the designs and understood what the end goal of the shoot was. We agreed on the idea that the shoot had to be in lines with the young and funky nature of the products. So it had to stick to bright colors and add is a lot of young flavors to the images. We decided to play along with the emoticons and the motifs on the socks itself.

THE GEAR

Following gear was used in this
1. Nikon D810
2. 24-70 Nikkor lens
3. Manfroto 055 Tripod
4. Assortment of bright colored chart paper
5. Props ranging from tiny cupcakes to typewriter, old LPs etc as planned for the shoot

THE SETUP

• A relatively simple setup; we placed a 8 by 4 white ply on the floor.
• We laid down the chart paper complimenting the socks
• Props that complimented the motifs on the socks.
• This was a straight shot so we used an Elinchrom Octa with a Master 650 to light the frame.

CAMERA SETTINGS

Camera settings for the shot: ISO 160, aperture: f9 and shutter: 1/160

We capitalised on the bright and vibrant colors of the socks and used it to leverage the shoot further. We wanted to keep the look and feel young and dynamic; given that the target audience would ideally be the younger generations and some young at heard folks too. Thought it was a pretty simple shoot but the production planning was crucial. It helped to have a meeting with the client and discuss the visual voice of the photo shoot and also understand what they did not want.

Let us know what you think about the shoot. Could we have done anything different to make it a little more colorful? We’ll be happy to hear your thoughts.
